Mercedes-Benz has launched the new S 350 BlueTEC model powered with a new V6 diesel engine and an AdBlue emission control. It is available at a price of EUR76,279. According to Mercedes-Benz, the new BlueTEC model has a combined fuel consumption of 6.8lt of diesel per 100km corresponding to CO2 emissions of 177gm/km. The new diesel model has a power output of 190kW with a torque of 620Nm. In addition, the S 350 BlueTEC features an active blind spot assist and active lane keeping assist. The new model has a top speed of 250km/h. The company said that in the new S350, BlueTEC technology reduces emissions and an AdBlue solution which is injected into the exhaust flow, releases ammonia, which converts up to 80% of nitrogen oxides into harmless nitrogen and water in downstream SCR (selective catalytic reduction) catalytic converter. Sales of Mercedes-Benz cars were up 13.2 percent in the year to June as strong demand for the premium brand in China and the United States helped drive growth, parent company Daimler AG said Monday. Mercedes-Benz sold 113,300 cars worldwide last month, making it the best June performance in its history, Daimler said. The premium brand's sales in China were up 177 percent last month to 13,700 cars, U.S. sales were up 20.5 percent to 18,300, and sales in Japan gained 26.5 percent compared with June last year to reach 3,400. There also was strong growth in Brazil, Russia and India: Daimler reported sales increases of more than 70 percent in all three of the emerging markets. The COMAND APS multimedia system from Mercedes-Benz features a Europe-wide navigation system with special capabilities. As the data are stored on a hard disc (40 gigabytes), the system is able to access the navigation information much faster than a DVD-based system, and calculate the route more rapidly. Thanks to the new map update-programme the current map data are automatically uploaded during a regular workshop service visit. Mercedes-Benz will also use its web pages to inform customers when a new update is available. On customer request, updates can also be provided by a Mercedes-Benz partner outside the normal service intervals.
