The Mercedes Shooting Break Concept – a station wagon version for the CLS-Class – will make its world debut later this week at the Beijing motor show.
Unlike Concept Fascination, this copy is much closer to the production version of the Estate model, based on the next generation of CLS. Moreover, this concept prefigures also the new generation of V6 engines from Mercedes-Benz, this copy is equipped with a 3.5-liter engine that develops 306 HP and 273 lb-ft of torque.
Mercedes describes this as the forerunner to a new generation of direct injection engines, and says that attention has been paid to the efficiency of the ancillary units (presumably the alternator, among other things), and that there is also a start/stop system. Inside, the Shooting Break carries on the plush, cosy feel started by the original CLS with a bespoke interior quite different from the cabin of the E-class (on which the car’s platform is based).
It’s also said to be very close to the interior of the production CLS, although some of the swish oak veneer and switchgear will most likely be toned down.
New Mercedes-Benz concept could enter in production at a time and will be the competitor of the BMW 5-Series GT. The production model derived from this concept could be sold as a wagon version of the CLS, based on the second-generation of this four-doors coupe.
