Mercedes has confirmed two days ago that will change Schumacher’s car in bid to find pace in Spain.
“It’s not a new chassis per se, it’s a chassis we used in testing,” said Brawn at a fundraising event for the Royal National Lifeboat Institution on the banks of the River Thames today.
Brawn said the wheelbase would also be changed to improve weight distribution, and Mercedes are also planning a major aerodynamic revamp for the first race of the European season after four in the Middle East and east Asia.
Brawn admitted that Mercedes – and Schumacher – hadn’t yet performed as hoped during the 2010 campaign but said that the German shouldn’t be written off.
“We’ve not had a fantastic start but we are still in there because no-one else is really dominating either – there is still plenty of opportunity,” he said.
“He is so determined, and you can see that in his driving. The bits where it’s not quite working are not because of [lack of] skill or bravery, it’s because the technique needs tuning, and the car needs tuning. It’s odd places where he’s losing time and that’s why we think he’ll sort it out and we’ll sort it out.
