Mercedes-Benz has launched the new S 350 BlueTEC model powered with a new V6 diesel engine and an AdBlue emission control. It is available at a price of EUR76,279. According to Mercedes-Benz, the new BlueTEC model has a combined fuel consumption of 6.8lt of diesel per 100km corresponding to CO2 emissions of 177gm/km. The new diesel model has a power output of 190kW with a torque of 620Nm. In addition, the S 350 BlueTEC features an active blind spot assist and active lane keeping assist. The new model has a top speed of 250km/h. The company said that in the new S350, BlueTEC technology reduces emissions and an AdBlue solution which is injected into the exhaust flow, releases ammonia, which converts up to 80% of nitrogen oxides into harmless nitrogen and water in downstream SCR (selective catalytic reduction) catalytic converter. According to some automotive blogs, the next generation S Class will go all-hybrid – with the exception of the AMG models. Currently, the only Hybrid variant is the S400 Hybrid, which is based on the 3.5 liter V6 engine and a 20 horsepower electric motor It’s still not yet 100 percent that the S-Class will go all-hybrid, though that's definitely a "strong consideration" according to a Mercedes-Benz spokesman. What is certain, however, is that the current 5.5-liter naturally-aspirated, 382-horsepower S550 will get a new direct-injection, twin-turbocharged V-8 engine from the MoVe family of engines. In 1980, Mercedes-Benz introduced the airbag in Germany as an option on its high-end S-Class (W126). In the Mercedes system, the sensors would automatically pre-tension the seat belts to reduce occupant's motion on impact (now a common feature), and then deploy the airbag on impact. Today, Mercedes wants to introduce an external airbag. Not to turn the car into a massive cushion and protect pedestrians, as you might guess, but to be deployed beneath the car as a sort of anchor to slow the car when a collision is inevitable. The bag inflates below the car, lifting the vehicle slightly and pushing a rubber and steel plate against the road. The result is up to 2G deceleration, enough to greatly reduce the force of impact.
