Michael Schumacher may quit F1, says Eddie Jordan

Michael Schumacher is thinking about pulling out of Formula 1 at the end of this season, according to BBC Sport pundit Eddie Jordan. The German, 41, ended three years in retirement when he signed last winter a three-year deal to drive for Mercedes. "I've a hunch something fundamental has changed. I believe he is disillusioned and thinking of quitting," said Jordan. Jordan said: "There are too many indications that now give me the feeling he is reconsidering his commitment to his three-year contract. "There is far too much movement in the Mercedes motorhome involving managers from drivers from other teams. "I have heard rumours that (team principal) Ross Brawn's continuity with the team is in doubt, which would be a huge blow. "It's also rumoured that as a result of the lack of performance of the Mercedes car, expectations for next year within the team are not as high as they were at first. "The Barrichello incident ...

F1: Mercedes switch Michael Schumacher’s car

Mercedes has confirmed two days ago that will change Schumacher's car in bid to find pace in Spain. "It's not a new chassis per se, it's a chassis we used in testing," said Brawn at a fundraising event for the Royal National Lifeboat Institution on the banks of the River Thames today. Brawn said the wheelbase would also be changed to improve weight distribution, and Mercedes are also planning a major aerodynamic revamp for the first race of the European season after four in the Middle East and east Asia. Brawn admitted that Mercedes – and Schumacher - hadn’t yet performed as hoped during the 2010 campaign but said that the German shouldn’t be written off. "We've not had a fantastic start but we are still in there because no-one else is really dominating either - there is still plenty of opportunity," he said. "He is so determined, and you can see that in his ...

China’s driver to compete for Mercedes in DTM series

Chinese racing driver 'Frankie' Cheng Congfu will compete for Mercedes in the German touring car (DTM) championship this year, the carmaker said on Thursday. The 25-year-old, who six years ago became the first driver born in mainland China to get behind the wheel of a Formula One car when he did a demonstration run in a McLaren, will be the first Chinese in the series that starts at Hockenheim on April 25. Cheng will be racing against a field that includes former F1 drivers Ralf Schumacher and David Coulthard as well as current McLaren reserve Gary Paffett and Force India's Paul di Resta. "It will be a great challenge for me to race in the DTM," he said. "I know I will have to learn a lot in this highly competitive championship but I will give it my all to thank everybody for their confidence." Mercedes aims to add F-duct soon

Mercedes GP is planning to introduce its own version of McLaren's F-Duct system as soon as it can - because it believes it delivers a 'significant' advantage. The McLaren system provides a boost in top speed because it helps stall the rear wing on the straights when the driver closes off a vent in the cockpit. Although Renault has already ruled out integrating the device onto its car, Mercedes GP is already evaluating how quickly it can fit it onto its contender. When asked if the team was going to run an F-Duct soon, Mercedes GP team principal Ross Brawn said: "Yes. It's quite a significant gain. "We're normally battling the drag and downforce from the rear wing and that gives a step change in the drag. It's not an easy system to get working properly as you've probably seen from Sauber's first attempts – they've not gone smoothly. "We're working on it, but it's ...

Schumacher: Formula One remains exciting

Michael Schumacher has hit back at claims that the new rule changes that have been added in Formula One for the 2010 season have made the sport boring. Some fans and pundits were left unimpressed by the opening race of the season - the Bahrain Grand Prix - which took place on March 14th, as the new rules were blamed for a lack of excitement on the track. Among the developments are that teams are unable to refuel during the race, meaning that it is tougher to compete overtaking manoeuvres. Schumacher started from seventh on the grid and finished sixth in Bahrain in his Mercedes GP PETRONAS car, but has stood up for Formula One ahead of the upcoming Australian Grand Prix on March 28th. He told the BBC: "It is not motorcycle racing, it has always had less overtaking - the excitement ...
