2012 Mercedes C63 AMG Black unveiled
The new 2012 Mercedes C63 AMG Coupe Black Series made its world debut last week-end at the Formula 1 German Grand Prix on the Nürburgring.
Channeled through a special tuned AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 7-speed transmission with rear axle differential lock, the AMG 6.3-liter V8 engine produces 517 PS (380 kW / 510 bhp), 30 PS (22 kW / 30 bhp) more than the C63 AMG with Performance Package, and a maximum torque of 620 newton meters.
The powerplant gets forged pistons, connecting rods, a bigger oil cooler and a lightweight crankshaft all pinched from the AMG-built supercar, together with a new ECU. That brings it tantalisingly close to the E63, the C63’s big brother.
It’s not only the engine that’s a match for the heavier E63: the track is 40mm wider at the front and 79mm wider at the rear, the latter thanks to the E63 donating its rear axle.
