The new 2012 Mercedes C63 AMG Coupe Black Series made its world debut last week-end at the Formula 1 German Grand Prix on the Nürburgring. Channeled through a special tuned AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 7-speed transmission with rear axle differential lock, the AMG 6.3-liter V8 engine produces 517 PS (380 kW / 510 bhp), 30 PS (22 kW / 30 bhp) more than the C63 AMG with Performance Package, and a maximum torque of 620 newton meters. The powerplant gets forged pistons, connecting rods, a bigger oil cooler and a lightweight crankshaft all pinched from the AMG-built supercar, together with a new ECU. Mercedes US/UK was recalling more than 100,000 Mercedes-Benz vehicles in the United States and the United Kingdom to prevent a loss of power steering fluid. The NHTSA said in a posting to its website Monday that the recall involved Mercedes-Benz C-Class vehicles from the 2010 model year and Mercedes-Benz E-Class vehicles from the 2010-2011 model years. The recall involves vehicles produced between June 2009 and late February 2010. A problem with the steering system's pump could lead to a loss of fluid and "owners may not have sufficient control of the vehicle in areas, such as parking lots, where maximum power steering is required, increasing the risk of a vehicle crash," the NHTSA said on its website. The Daimler spokesman stressed that drivers retained control of the car even in the event of a power steering failure. Daimler, aims to sell 300,000 Mercedes-Benz cars in China annually in 2015, its chief executive said on Friday, nearly tripling its sales this year. China will become the biggest market for Daimler AG's (DAI.XE) Mercedes Benz Cars unit, around 2014 to 2016, Daimler Chief Executive Dieter Zetsche said Friday. Zetsche also said he doesn't expect any major overcapacity in China's auto industry if its economic growth remains at a fast pace. Mercedes-Benz today unveiled two new engines for the 2011 CL-Class. The first of two all-new direct injection biturbo V8 engines is for the 2011 CL550 4MATIC. According to Mercedes, the 4.6-liter V8 engine has 20 percent smaller displacement than its predecessor, but delivers 429 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque, which is 12 percent more horsepower and 32 percent more torque. It also has an improved fuel economy of about 10 percent. The CL550 4MATIC will have an MSRP of $114,025. The second engine making its debut is the hand-assembled high-performance 5.5-liter AMG V8 engine, featuring the use of stop/start technology as well as twin turbochargers and direct injection.
